How to Roll a Mat for Storage

Storing your entrance mats properly is easy if you know how!  The most important thing to remember is ROLL, DON’T FOLD.

01

Get a Core

Before you start, you’ll need a sturdy core on which to roll your mat.  We recommend using concrete form tubes as the core as they’re inexpensive, easy to find at any hardware or building supply store, and are easily replaced if damaged or destroyed.

Make sure you choose a core that is at least as long as the short side of your mat.  Your mat needs to be fully supported by the tube during storage.  If you can’t find a single form tube long enough for your needs, two shorter tubes can be packing taped together to make one long tube in a pinch.

02

Flip Your Mat Upside Down

Flip your mat over so that it’s fuzzy side down.  Not sure how?  Click here to see our instructions on how to easily flip your mat.

03

Place the Core and Start the Roll

Place your concrete form tube support core on one end of the mat. Line up the core so it is parallel to the edge of the mat and sitting on top of the mat.

Carefully roll up the edge of your mat so that it is on the core.  Larger / wider mats may need more than one person to complete this step.

04

Keep Rolling

Keep rolling the core forward as you go, rolling up more of your mat on to it.  Keep rolling until you’ve got about a foot or so of unrolled mat to go.

05

Prepare your shrinkwrap.

You will use regular non-adhesive pallet wrap (shrinkwrap) to keep your mat rolled up and protected while in storage.  Unroll about a foot worth of shrinkwrap and tuck the end into your rolled mat, leaving the rest of the roll out.

06

Wrap up the rolled mat.

Wrap the shrinkwrap around your rolled-up mat, and roll the mat forward to ‘close the loop’ so the shrinkwrap can stick to itself forming a complete wrap.

Keep rolling the mat forward adding layers of shrinkwrap until the mat is secure.

07

Tear off shrinkwrap.

Once your mat is secure, tear off the shrinkwrap roll and secure the loose end with packing tape it doesn’t unwrap itself over time.

08

Store it.

Carry the mat using the core and place it into storage.  We recommend wrapping the entire mat in shrinkwrap or plastic if it will be stored for extended periods of time.
