Choosing the right entrance mats for your hotel doesn’t need to be complicated or difficult – but it can be tough to navigate on your own! Scraper mats, dryer mats, polypropylene vs nylon vs PVC – there’s a lot to choose from!
Ideally, a perfect entrance matting system for a hotel (or any other public-facing business with ingress from the outdoors) would use a three-stage entrance matting system:
- First Stage: deployed fully outdoors, aggressive scraping action, maximum flow-through of dirt and debris, like Cobra.
- Second stage: deployed in covered outdoor or enclosed vestibule, 75% scraping / 25% drying action, solid backing to hold dirt and debris, like Kermode.
- Third stage: deployed fully indoors, maximum drying / secondary scraping action, high density, non-reactive, solid backing to prevent any water or dirt flow-through onto installed flooring, like Grizzly FX.
The amount of matting you need is just as important as the type of matting! As a general rule of thumb, the more matting the better! The more time guests spend walking on your entrance matting once entering your lobby, the more opportunity that matting has to scrape clean and dry their feet and suitcase wheels. At a minimum, you should aim for “feet on mat” for at least 3 full stride lengths – and that’s at a minimum! Imagine trying to dry yourself off after a shower using just a facecloth – you could probably do it, but it wouldn’t be very effective.
